DEBBIE JEAN'S BIO

Debbie has been a professional make-up artist since 1994.
“In addition to teaching my students the latest techniques, I hope to inspire and motivate them. Each student has different requirements in terms of advice and support. Course numbers are restricted to enable me to assess each student individually and better guide them in choosing the make-up field that best suits their personality and style of make-up. People that would like to specialise in Bridal, Special Occasion and Makeover make-up, work in a professional make-up store like Mac, or work in the fashion industry for top magazines - I hope to help them achieve their goal.”

Having the opportunity to work with top fashion photographers, models, directors, stylists, ad agencies, production companies and magazines, has given Debbie the experience and edge which benefits her students. Debbie was the owner of The Make-Up School, Johannesburg for 5 years.

She was also the co-founder of a make-up range called – Professional Make-Up, this involved the developing, packaging, marketing and selling of the product.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL AND WHAT DEBBIE HAS TO SAY

Debbie lives in Cape Town and works full time as a fashion make-up artist working on photo shoots.

Debbie says: ‘Make-up is my passion and passing on my knowledge through teaching the latest make-up techiques brings me great pleasure. I run a boutique school catering for those who have specific make-up needs.

My courses mainly focus on fashion and bridal make-up. I keep my classes small and my teaching techniques are detailed and consise. Video clips and reading material is supplied to each student.

Models are required to practice the techniques (friends and family - I do assist with this if totally necessary)

I make suggestions with regard to designing students make-up kit for their specific needs. I have hundreds of products for students to test and work with (All of which make-up artists get a discount on when purchasing).

I am not an agent and therefore don’t find work for students after the course.
I do however assist students to get on set (film shoots, photo shoots) when necessary and only when students show potential.

Each student gets guidance and support throught the course. I teach most of my own lessons – class times might be changed due to my photo shoot scheduale, but not without each students go ahead. I do have assistant teachers when a date can’t be moved.

My academy tends to cater for dynamic, self sufficient people who want to train in depth in a reasonable time frame.

The best way to get a ‘feel’ of what I do is to come watch part of a lesson or take a look at the albums on my Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/cdSF4P
